Next Monday evening is a public holiday and normally Monday Night Meditations will not be held. However due to current global events, I have decided to hold a meditation circle on Monday evening, and as the night almost marks a new month, the new mantra that we will be working with for the month of October will be the Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu mantra.
The translation of the Sanskirt is:
“May all beings be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all”.
When these words are chanted, they will be done so as an offering to the world, as well as being a reminder of our deeper connection to the world around us. As such, we are reminded of the Universal Law of Cause and Effect – that for every positive (or negative) action we offer, there is a positive (or negative) reaction. Therefore, the way we carry ourselves and interact with the world around us has great impacts on all. This is, in essence, the “Golden Rule” that can be found in most, if not all, religious and spiritual beliefs around the world.
Miten and Deva Premal perform a wonderful version of this mantra that can be found here.
